Mary Holcomb Hinson

Mrs. Mary Holcomb Hinson, age 91, of Elkin passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at her home. She was born December 20, 1927 in Wilkes County to John Solomon and Edith Spicer Holcomb.

Mrs. Hinson was an active community volunteer and member of First Baptist Church of Elkin where she was a member of the Rebecca Sunday School class and longtime member of the Bereavement Committee.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Clair Hinson; brothers, Jones Holcomb, Oakey Lee Holcomb, Cyrus Holcomb; sisters, Phyllis Holcomb and Estelle Holcomb.

Survivors include: sons, Michael Hinson and wife Charlotte of Burlington, Doug Hinson of Elkin; daughters, Kay Monday and husband Keith of Boonville, Debbie Niblock and husband David of Winston-Salem; sister JoAnn Jahn of Fresno, CA; grandchildren, Brandon Mangum and wife Nancy; Carla Alexander and husband Brian, Robbie Monday and wife Sara, Joshua Hinson, Jacob Hinson, Ethan Hinson and wife Lauren, Edith Hinson, Emily Niblock, Hank Niblock; step-grandson, Kirk Monday and wife Hesta; 5 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hinson will lie in state Friday, January 11, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. A private burial will be conducted Saturday, January 12, 2019 with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Elkin with Dr. Bill Johnson and Rev. Mark Reece officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Elkin, 110 Gwyn Ave, Elkin, NC 28621; Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Ln., Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or the donor’s hospice of choice.
