Betty Gilliam

Mrs. Betty Sanborn Gilliam, age 87, of Elkin passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Woltz Hospice Home. She was born December 3, 1931 in Ocean Port N.J. to George and Dorothy Rhodes Sanborn.

Mrs. Gilliam was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She retired from Brendles, loved traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Gary Gilliam; sister, Thelma Youmans; and stepfather, Ronald Vigneault.

Survivors include: sons, Donnie Gilliam and wife Wanda of Georgia, Dale Gilliam of Elkin; daughter, Beth Walters and husband Scott of Elkin; brother, George Sanborn (Jana) of Elkin; sister, Linda Bray and husband Ronald of Boonville; brother-in-law, Harry Youmans of Arizona; 8 grandchildren, Chanda Canup (Scott), Daniel Gilliam (Casey), Erica Wagoner (Josh), Shannon Gilliam, Kye Gilliam (Chantal), Jared Gilliam, Kimberly Ledbetter, Josh Walters (Mary); and 11 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, January 6, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
