Peggy Simmons Slawter

Mrs. Peggy Simmons Slawter, age 62, of State Road passed away Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Peggy was born April 17, 1956 in Surry County to Franklin Delano and Dorothy Martin Simmons.

Peggy was a member of Mountain Park Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. She retired from Elkin City Schools and Mountain Park Elementary where she taught special education. Peggy also served on the Surry County Board of Elections. She loved being a Nanna to her grandson, Kolsen.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Brittany Slawter and father-in-law, Elbert Slawter.

Survivors include: her loving husband, Michael Slawter of the home; daughter, Presley Macemore and husband Dustin of State Road; mother, Dorothy M. Simmons of State Road; sisters, Patricia Wagoner and husband Peegie of State Road, Susan Worth and husband Bobby of Mt. Airy; grandson, Kolsen Macemore; mother-in-law, Annie Mae Slawter; brothers and sisters-in-law, Danny and Joy Slawter, Mark and Lisa Slawter, Judy and Darrell Cleary, Mike and Jessica Boing; nieces and nephews, Daniyel Kennedy Bates and husband Todd, Rachel Boing, Sydney Worth, Paige Edwards, David Slawter, Ryan Worth, Conner Boing, Matthew Slawter; great nieces and nephews, “Little Friend” Parker Bates, Camila Slawter, Anna Kate Slawter, Ethan Slawter, Elizabeth Slawter, Mark Slawter, Luke Slawter, and Catilina Slawter.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Mountain Park Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Henderson and Rev. Granville Branch officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Park Cemetery. A gathering of friends will be held 1:00 – 3:00 pm at Mountain Park Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Park Baptist Church, 358 Zephyr Mountain Park Rd, State Road, NC 28676.

It was Peggy’s wish that everyone who attends her funeral service and receiving dress in casual attire.
