Kenneth Martin Johnson

Mr. Kenneth Martin Johnson, age 75, of Thurmond passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018 at his residence. Kenneth was born May 28, 1943 in Wilkes County to James Ovid and Ella Spicer Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a member of Center Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and adult Sunday School Teacher. He was a past Master of the Traphill Masonic Lodge 483. He was an employee of Elmores for 23 years and owner of Ken’s Appliance Service.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Dan Johnson; sisters, Vertie Marie Johnson and Atterie Billings.

Survivors include: his dedicated and loving wife of 53 years, Phyllis Cheek Johnson of the home, son, Marty and wife Bobbie of McKinney, TX; daughter Kendra Johnson Bowers and husband Michael of Kernersville; mother-in-law, Nina H. Cheek; brothers, Leonard Johnson of Thurmond, Bill Johnson of Thurmond, Archie Johnson of Ronda; sister, Kathleen Adams of State Road; grandchildren, Tyler Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Jace Johnson, Ethan Bowers, Kenly Bowers, and Kalen Bowers.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Marvin Blackburn and Mr. Wendell Southard officiating. Burial will follow in Center Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
