Virginia Couch

Mrs. Virginia Dare Couch, age 69, passed away Monday, September 3, 2018 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.  Mrs. Couch was born August 11, 1949 in Wilkes County to Ralph and Ruby Felts Pennington.

Mrs. Couch was a homemaker and a member of Center Baptist Church.  She was the matriarch of the Couch Family Bluegrass Gospel Singers and played the upright bass fiddle for 23 years.  Mrs. Couch was a loving mother to many.

In addition to her father, Mrs. Couch was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Joseph Couch Sr.; brothers, Roger Pennington and Clarence Pennington; and sister, Elizabeth Pennington.

Survivors include: mother, Ruby Felts Pennington; son, Merle Joseph Couch Jr. and wife Michelle of Elkin; daughters, Tracey C. Hemric and husband Stan of Elkin, and Angela Zachary of Roaring River; brothers, Johnny Pennington and wife Suzi, Jimmy Pennington and wife Crystal, and Larry Pennington; sisters, Vivian Hopkins and husband Glen “Hoppy”, and Mary Wagner and husband Steve; grandchildren, Ashley Hemric, Amber Holcomb and husband Colt, Michalla Hayes and husband Paul, Madison Zachary, Autumn Zachary and Laura Zi Ling Couch; great grandchildren Denver Holcomb and expected great granddaughter in January and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Center Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Gilreath officiating.  Burial will follow at Cane Creek Baptist Church in McGrady.  The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.

The family would like to thank the staff at Woltz Hospice Home, Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital 2nd floor staff and the doctors and staff of the Holistic Medical Center of the Carolinas.
