James Alvin Benge

Mr. James Alvin Benge, age 83, of Traphill passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. He was born March 9, 1935 in Wilkes County to Leff and Cora Shepherd Benge.

Mr. Benge was a long time member of Knobbs Baptist Church where he served as deacon and supported the church in a variety of ways. He retired from PepsiCo.

In addition to his parents Mr. Benge was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lyons Benge; brother, Clyde Benge; twin sisters, Dorothy and Doris Benge; and son-in-law, Alton Waddell.

Survivors include: sons, Tony Benge and wife Ann of Thurmond, Tim Benge and wife Denise of Roaring River, David Lyons of Boonville; daughters, Kay Billings and husband Brady of Traphill, Patricia Waddell of Roaring River; five brothers, John Benge and wife Lois, Wayne Benge and wife Barbara, Aldean Benge and wife Virginia, Junior Benge and wife Frances, Kenneth Benge and wife Ruby; two sisters, Christine Billings and husband Otto, Barbara Sullivan and husband Jim; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, September 2, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Knobbs Baptist Church with Rev. Derick Barker and Rev. Justin Norman officiating. The casket will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
