John Franklin Darnell

Mr. John Franklin Darnell, age 90, of Elkin passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born September 3, 1927 in Wilkes County to Charlie Reece and Mary Couch Darnell.

Mr. Darnell was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and the Carolina Ramblers Camping Club. He retired from Chatham Manufacturing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Absher Darnell; brothers, Joseph Darnell, David Darnell, James Darnell, Isaac Darnell; sisters, Loraine Gentry, Vetrol Tucker, and Mozelle Cooper.

Survivors include: his wife, Demie Johnson Darnell of the home; son, Barry Franklin Darnell and wife Mary of Elkin; daughter, Martha Swaim and husband Allen of Jonesville; 4 grandchildren, Renee Haraway, Rick Swaim, Brian Darnell, Scott Darnell; 9 great-grandchildren, Alyssa Hensley, Neelie Swaim, Erin Crater, Andrew Darnell, J. Max Swaim, Logan Darnell, Samuel Darnell, Zach Darnell, and Sarah Darnell.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday, August 17, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30- 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
