Mary Ruth Holbrook

Mrs. Mary Ruth Holbrook, age 94, of Elkin passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Pruitt Health. She was born December 22, 1923 in Surry County to Claude and Viola Burcham Davis.

Mrs. Holbrook was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who welcomed everyone with an open heart and open home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bratt Holbrook; an infant daughter; brother, John Davis; sisters, Annie Davis Holbrook and Clara Davis Ransome.

Survivors include: son, James Holbrook and wife Brenda; daughters, Elizabeth Mathis and husband RG; Mary Lou Cheek and husband Phillip; grandchildren, Ramona Hemric and husband Marty; Jeanie Barker and husband Chad; Jamie Holbrook and wife Keyla; Jason Holbrook and wife Megan; and six great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Cool Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Souther and Rev. Russ Nixon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30- 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Mrs. Holbrook will lie-in-state at Elkin Funeral Service 9:00 a.m. -12:00 noon prior to the service.
