Sara Miller

July 23, 1931 — June 14, 2018

Mrs. Sara Reece Miller, age 86, of Elkin passed way Thursday, June 14, 2018 at SECU Hospice Center in Yadkinville. She was born in Surry County on July 23, 1931 to Reverend D. G. and Lela Davis Reece.

Mrs. Miller graduated from Jonesville High School in 1949 where she was an honor student and member of the basketball team. She went on to continue her education at Gardner- Webb College where she earned an Associate of Arts degree in Music. During her time there she was a member of the a cappella choir, recognized as an outstanding music student, earned the honor of Chief Marshall, and was elected May Queen.

She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Elkin where her involvement included; serving as church secretary, assistant organist, Sunday school teacher, accompanist for children’s choirs and Sunday evening services.

Mrs. Miller was a dedicated employee of Elkin City schools for 30 years. During her tenure there she held various positions including clerical, Title 1 and classroom assistant, librarian, and computer lab instructor.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” H. Miller, Sr.; brothers, Davis Reece, Dothan Reece, and Tom Reece; sisters, Vanice Reeves, Mildred Biggs, Columbia Elizabeth Reece; and Mary Boles.

Survivors include; son, James “Jim” H. Miller, Jr and wife Tara of Holly Springs; daughter, Ann Miller Greene and husband Ken of Ronda; grandchildren, Ryan Miller and wife Heather, Brett Greene and wife Amy, Andrew Greene and wife Meredith; great grandchildren, Keeley Jaymes Greene, Braden Dylan Greene, Miles Cross Greene, Nora Jaymes Greene, Liana Reece Miller, Marisa Eve Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Elkin with Dr. Bill Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00- 2:00 p.m prior to the service at the church.
