Betty Jane Mickey

Betty Jane Mickey, age 79, went home to Heaven on June 12, 2018, at the Elizabeth House, Four Seasons Hospice, Flat Rock NC, Hendersonville. She was born August 11, 1938 in Surry County to Vonda and Clyde McBride. Mrs. Mickey was a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesville. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and attended East Carolina University. She played basketball, was homecoming queen, a singer, piano player and dancer (ballet, jazz, and tap). She also sang on a morning show on TV with a quartet. She was also in the Junior Women's Club. She retired from Central Telephone Company after 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband James “Jimmy” Odell Mickey Jr, whom we're married 50 years and their anniversary, joined again in heaven, is Friday June 15.

Survivors include; son, Greg Mickey and wife Beth of Inman, SC, daughter Melinda Haynes Stroupe husband Barry Lee of Hendersonville; granddaughters Hannah Mickey, Meredith Wurham and husband Matt, Julia Abigail Haynes; grandsons, Austin and Ryan Haynes; sister, Lenetta Frawley; nephews, Patrick Frawley, Doug Frawley, wife Laura, and their children Liam, Caitlyn, Landon; and many cousins who love her very much.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Roger Hensley officiating. Interment will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

She was loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
