Gail Sparks

Mrs. Gail Jeanette Sparks, age 78, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018 at her  home.  She was born on August 1, 1939, in Surry County to Opie Woodrow White and Ila Marshall White.  She married David Lee Sparks on October 22, 1966, and they were married for 51 years until his death last June 9, 2017.  Mrs. Sparks was employed for many years as an Executive Secretary at Chatham Manufacturing Company.

Survivors include her brothers Donald Wayne White of Germanton, N.C., Opie Woodrow White, Jr., and wife Carolyn of Aledo, Texas, and Gary Leon White of Carolina Beach, N.C.   Also surviving are brothers-in-law Ted Sparks and wife Nancy of Brooks Crossroads, Tony Sparks and wife Peggy of Hamptonville, and Ronnie Sparks and wife Mildred of Elkin.  In addition, she is survived by nieces and nephews Melissa White Neidhart, Stephanie White Carrell, Anthony Craig White, Sandy L. White,  Jeffrey S. Tuttle, and many other beloved nieces and nephews in the extended Sparks family.

The family especially wants to thank Gail’s two special and devoted caregivers Gail Steele and Carolyn Oakley of Elkin for their loving care and devotion to Gail during her final days. Also, many thanks to all the dedicated staff at Pruitt Health-Elkin.  If friends wish to remember Gail with a donation or memorial, the family requests a memorial to Mountain Valley Hospice or a charity of choice in lieu of flowers.

A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Scott Bishop of Swan Creek Baptist Church officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 at Elkin Funeral Service before the graveside service.
