Clyde Bonson Byrd

Mr. Clyde Bonson Byrd age 77, of Thurmond passed away Friday, May 11, 2018 at Pruitt Healthcare in Elkin. He was born May 11, 1941 in Wilkes County to Lester Bonson and Hannas Gentry Byrd.

Mr. Byrd was a member of Roaring Gap Baptist Church and an active member of the Thurmond Community. He was an assistant Scout leader for Boy Scout troop #622, and was active with the scouts for 51 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Carol Byrd; Brothers, Harold Byrd and John Byrd; and sisters, Ida Mae Haynes and Myrtle Sparks and sister-in-law, Sylvia Ann Jackson.

Survivors include: daughter, Susan Nichols and husband Dean of Elkin; brothers, Dean Byrd and wife Norma and Lonnie Byrd and wife Ruby all of N. Wilkesboro; sisters; Barbara Johnston of Roaring River, Betty Warren, and Shelba Sheets and Husband Tommy of N. Wilkesboro.; mother-in-law, Edith W. Harpe of Thurmond; brother-in-law, Andrew Jackson; and sister-in-law, Ella Byrd.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday May 15, 2018 at 4:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel, with Rev. Richard Hackler and Rev. Jerry Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Serving as Pall bearers will be leaders from the Boy Scout troops.
