Mr. William Harold Freeman, age 93, of McLeansville, NC went to his heavenly home on May 10, 2018 at Concord Place of Concord, NC surrounded by his loving family. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend to so many.
Mr. Freeman was born in Elkin, NC on January 13, 1925 and was the son of the late Enoch Jackson Freeman and Lena Howell Freeman. Mr. Freeman was a Mason and a member of Gate City Lodge #694 and an active member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist church in Greensboro, NC and loved to volunteer his services. He retired from Sears Roebuck & Co. after 30 years of service as a division manager. He was recognized with an award for outstanding Sales and Leadership.
Mr. Freeman loved his hometown of Elkin, NC where he grew up hunting, fishing and helping in the family garden. He was a US Army Veteran and served during WWll from 1943 to 1946. He earned several medals, Good Conduct, Expert Shooting and the Combat Infantry badge. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and completed his service as Corporal. When he returned home, he married his high school sweetheart; Estelle. They would have celebrated 72 years of marriage on May 12, 2018.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his son, William Charles Freeman; brothers, Henry, Jack, and Edworth Freeman and sister, Mildred Trainor.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Estelle Freeman; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Jim Parker of Indian Trail, NC; sister, Carolyn F. Woodruff of Boonville, NC; daughter in law, Danna F. Freeman of Raleigh; grandchildren, Jennifer and Zack Jackson of Waxhaw, NC, Daniel Freeman of Raleigh, NC, Jacob Parker of Matthews, NC and Marianna Parker of Hendersonville, NC; and great grandchildren Parker and Cooper Jackson.
A graveside service will be conducted Monday, May 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Hollywood Cemetery in Elkin, NC with Rev. Jim Alred and Rev. Andrew Brown officiating. Military honors will be provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends at Elkin Funeral Service one hour prior to the service.
