Andrew "Andy" Cook

Mr. Andrew Newton “Andy” Cooke, age 52, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 5, 2018 at his residence.  Mr. Cooke was born May 16, 1965 in Yadkin County to William Marcus and Virginia Ann Coe Cooke.

Andy was a born again Christian who read his Bible daily.  He was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a member of the choir.  Andy also was responsible for maintaining the church bus.  Andy could be found on most days at the church serving in some way, whether it was blowing leaves, painting lines in parking lot or just making sure everything was working properly.  Andy was employed by United Parcel Service and was a member of Windsor Cross Roads Ruritan Club and the Teamster Local Union #61.  Andy volunteered for Relay for Life and Courtney Elementary School.  He also helped coach the Softball team at Courtney Elementary School.  Andy had no children of his own but proudly called Allie and Kaitlyn his girls and would cross the road daily to visit them.

Andy was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Coe, his paternal grandparents, Dr. Herschell and Lois Croom Cooke, his maternal grandparents, Woodrow and Lalar Stanley Coe, an uncle, Wayne Coe and his father-in-law, Fred Ross.

Survivors include, his wife, Paula Cooke of the home, his father, Marcus Cooke of Chapel Hill, brothers, Mark Cooke and Joe Cooke of Rockford, a half sister, Shelley Cooke, his father and mother-in-law, Allan and Arlene “Ralph” Dietz of State Road, his mother in law, Tommie Ross of Harmony, a uncle, Early Coe and wife Brenda and aunt Alma Matthews and husband Landon, and Linda Coe, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Hamptonville with Rev. Joey Tomlin officiating.  Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 pm at Elkin Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to Flat Rock Baptist Church 3800 Flat Rock Church Road, Hamptonvlle, NC 27020.
