Gary Lee Maxey

Mr. Gary Lee Maxey, age 66, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center.  Mr. Maxey was born December 1, 1951 in Lincoln, Illinois to Clarence and Mary Phelan Maxey.

Gary was a member of Elkin First United Methodist Church and retired from First Union/Wells Fargo as a Financial Advisor.  Gary later owned and operated Maxey Investments.  Gary was very active in the community and was a member of Yadkin Valley Rotary, Foothills Arts Council, a board member of Winston Salem Foundation and served on the initial renovation board of the Reeves Theater.  Gary was best known as ”Baccus” at the Yadkin Valley Wine Festival for many years.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his sister, Sheron Maxey Ramlow and a brother, Rob Maxey.

Survivors include: his wife, Linda Lessen Maxey of the home; a daughter, Alexa Maxey and fiancé Riley Laegeler of Long Grove, IL; a sister, Carol Schleder of Rochester, IL; one niece and several nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at The Reeves Theater in Elkin with Pastor Mike Shuford officiating.  Interment will follow in Holy Catholic Family Cemetery in Lincoln, IL at a later date.
