James "Jim" Thomas Darnell

Mr. James “Jim” Thomas Darnell, age 83, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018.  Mr. Darnell was born October 25, 1934 in Surry County to Robert Lee Darnell and Connie Ruth Talley Darnell.

Mr. Darnell was a member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church and was an avid golfer, Nascar and UNC Tarheels fan.  Most of all he was a loving brother, uncle and friend.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Darnell was preceded in death by his sisters, Joann Crater and Nancy Price and his niece, Kimberly Lapsley.

Survivors include: his sister, Colleen Jones of Elkin; nieces and spouses, Donna Sallee and Brad and Stacy Darnell and Donnie; nephews and spouses, Bobby Jones, Mike Crater Chris, Gordon Jones and Mark Price and Betty; brother-in-law, Joe Price; eight great nieces and nephews and nephews and six great-great nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Blevins officiating.  Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Elkin Valley Baptist Church Building Fund, 118 N. Elkin Drive, Elkin, NC 2862l.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the extended family, church family and many close friends who have loved and supported Jimmy over the years .  The family would also like to thank the caregivers, Gail Steele, Faye Cain, Hilda Wall, Bruce Carter and Mountain Valley Hospice for all of the heartfelt appreciation and the loving care they provided.
