Mr. James Charlie Cockerham, age 90, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home of Dobson. Mr. Cockerham was born September 28, 1927 in Wilkes County to Lester Cockerham and Marie Tilley Cockerham.
Mr. Cockerham was a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church and was a veteran of the US Army. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and neighbor.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cockerham was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys “Pete” Durham Cockerham and sister, Estaline Draughn.
Survivors include: daughter, Betty Blackburn and husband David of Roaring River; sister, Louise Barker and husband Linville; grandchildren, Mike Blackburn and wife Crystal and Travis Blackburn and wife Julie; great grandchildren, Dustin Blackburn, Ledger Blackburn, Macy Strelko, Morgan Strelko and Phoenix Blackburn.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday, February 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Home Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Bauguess and Rev. Elmer Barker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the church.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Home Baptist Church, 162 Byrd Road, Roaring River, NC 28669.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, Hugh Chatham Nursing Center and Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the care given to Mr. Cockerham.
