Tyre Dallas "T.D." Carter

Mr. Tyre Dallas “T.D.” Carter, age 83, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Woltz Hospice Home.  Mr. Carter was born March 3, 1934 in Wilkes County to Alton B. and Hattie Barker Carter.

T.D. retired from Sprint Telephone and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, the superintendent of Sunday School and a church trustee.  T.D also served as a commissioner of Wilkes County from 1976 to 1980 and continued to be very active in the community for many years.  One of his favorite pass times that he enjoyed was gardening.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Carter Byrd and brother-in-law, Gene Harris.

Survivors include: his wife of 61 years, Nora Carter of the home; sons, Marty Carter and wife Nicola of Charlotte and Sandy Carter of Charlotte; daughter, Sheila Sparks of Elkin; brother, Stony Carter and wife Sara of Elkin; sister, Gail Harris of Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Anna Sparks, Zachary Carter, Chloe Carter, Dallas Carter, Ty Carter and Ben Carter; niece, Kim Dockery; nephew, Jeff Harris and several cousins.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Jeff Harris and Dr. Danny Dodds officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 1:00 – 3:00 at Elkin Funeral Service prior to the service.
