Opal Mary Darnell

Ms. Opal Mary Darnell, age 95, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  Ms. Darnell was born June 5, 1922 in Wilkes County to Martin Luther and Mettie Jane Shore Darnell.

She retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  Ms. Darnell taught Sunday school for more than 70 years, was member of the choir and played piano for the primary choir.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Darnell was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Darnell and Russell Darnell and six sisters, Hallie Blackburn, Lola Ingool, Hazel Luffman, Viola Benge, Florence Money and Flora Carter.

Survivors include: nieces and caregiver, Kaye Teague, Carol Barker, Kathleen Collins, Barbara Hobbs, Judy Hemric, Loretta Sparks, Becky Sparks and Tammie Money; nephews, Phillip Darnell, Orville Ingool, Dale Money and Randall Money; special family, Wendy Bullins and husband Steven, Jason Teague and wife Kathy, Jackson Carter and Kirsten Teague.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, February 18, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds, Rev. Joe Wood and Dr. Gary Byrd officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon prior to the service from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the church.
