Sammy Sloop

May 6, 1941 — February 13, 2018

Mr. Sammy Gray Sloop, age 76, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.  Mr. Sloop was born May 6, 1941 in Surry County to Lester and Audrey McCoin Sloop.

Mr. Sloop was a devoted father and loving husband and was the go to person in the family for any and everything.  He had a great reputation for his strong work ethic, being honest, hardworking and taking pride in his work.  Mr. Sloop was a master machinist, tool and die maker with Modern Machine and Metal Fabricators where he retired after 45 years of dedicated service.  Mr. Sloop also loved to garden and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with his family and friends.  His dogs always had a special place in his heart and he loved them as much as he loved his family.  He was also a member of the Surry County Coon Club.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sloop was preceded in death by his sister, Irene Ray and brothers, Brady Sloop and Everette Sloop.

Survivors include: wife, Jan Sloop; daughters, Wendy Sloop Darnell of Elkin, Lisa Sloop Alexander and husband Tim of Yadkinville and Gwen Sloop Smith and husband Robert of Ronda and grandchildren, Skylor Darnell and Rianna Darnell.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel.  The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
