Helen Bauguess

Mrs. Helen Marie Lawrence Sparks Bauguess, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC after a courageous battle with cancer.  The fifth of 9 children, Helen was born on August 15, 1935 in Wilkes County to John and Bertha Carter Lawrence.

Mrs. Bauguess was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and retired from Chatham Manufacturing, after working 42 years; after retiring she continued to work for several more years for the Intex Corporation and later for Wolfe Brothers Furniture.   She was preceded in death by her first husband John Quincy Sparks, her second husband James Justus Bauguess, a sister Ruby Wells, and a brother Lee Lawrence.

Survivors include her children, son Randy Sparks and daughter Michele Sparks Wilmoth (Greg) of Concord;  one grandchild, Logan Wilmoth;  three sisters Thelma Davis, Nellie Jo Park, and Betty Brooks (Sammy), all of Elkin;  three brothers Bill Lawrence of Elkin, Jack Lawrence of Mesa, AZ, and James Lawrence (Ann) of Boonville.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Mitch Smith and Rev. Jason Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:00 at the church.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice, Cabarrus County Hospice, Dr. Susan Hines and her staff and Dr. Robert Peterson and his staff for the loving care given to Mrs. Bauguess during her fight.
