Lee B. Booher

January 16, 1954 — November 19, 2017

Lee Benson Booher, age 63, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, November 19, 2017 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital after an extended period of illness.  Lee was born January 16, 1954 in Elkin, NC to Idelia Benson Booher and James Alexander Booher.

Once you met Lee Booher, you would never forget him.  Charming and capable with a dynamic, magnetic personality, he had a kind heart with a desire to help others.  He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master’s Degree in clinical psychology from East Carolina University and was an exceptionally gifted psychologist.  He worked for 20 years in both the public and private mental health settings in Surry, Yadkin and Wilkes Counties.  He had the ability to convince a person that everything would be all right, no matter the circumstances.  Clients and the colleagues who worked with him benefitted greatly from his expertise.  He was a skilled leader, even after he became physically disabled, people continued to seek his advice.

The son of musician parents, music was an enormous part of Lee’s entire life.  It was difficult to name a rock band from the 1960’s and 1970’s that Lee had not seen perform live and this passion extended to modern bands, as well.  He especially was an avid follower of the “Grateful Dead.”

Lee was preceded in death by his parents; half-sister, Mahala Booher and a special puppy dog, Pumpkin.

Left to cherish his memory, his wife, best friend and soul mate, Christine Werner Booher of the home; Lee and Christine were deeply in love and deeply in like with each other.  Their marriage exemplified the essence of true love, each person putting the other’s needs before his or her own.  They shared an extraordinary close bond and their favorite thing to do was to stay home and simply be together.

Survivors also include: step daughter, Dana Gardner Kalafut of Castalia, NC; daughters, Kristin Booher Myatt and husband Jason and Stephanie Booher Schubert and husband Jason of Greenville, NC, from his first marriage to Nancy; Sierra Booher Snell and husband Taylor of Cheyenne, WY and Samuel Booher of Elkin, NC, both from his marriage to Christine. Lee loved all of his children.

Other survivors include: mother-in-law, Mae Werner of Dobson, NC; brother-in-law, Bill Werner and wife Ginger of Mount Airy, NC.  He also leaves behind three little grandsons.

The family wishes to thank all of the doctors and nurses at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital for their outstanding level of care as well as the staff at Pruitt Health and Yadkin Valley Home Health.

Special thanks to Dr. Jerome Watson and Nurse Yolanda at Carolina Specialty Care in Statesville, NC for their years of compassionate, quality treatment.

Lee wished to be cremated and a memorial service will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Stuart Taylor officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Peace out, Man.
