Daniel Joseph Rudy, 68, of King, NC, left this earth on November 12, 2017, to begin a new journey. He passed peacefully at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC, after a long battle with cancer.
Rudy was born on November 18, 1948 in Elyria, Ohio to Paul ‘Budd’ Rudy and Jean Agnes Rawson Rudy. He graduated from Lorain High School, Lorain, Ohio in 1968 and went directly into the U.S. Marine Corps where he served his country in the Vietnam War. He later served in the US Naval Reserves from 1986 to 1993.
Rudy worked as a crane operator for thirteen years at American Shipbuilding, Inc. in Lorain, Ohio. He continued his career as a crane operator working for several other shipbuilding and crane services. He was an excellent Volkswagen mechanic and enjoyed rebuilding a VW Beetle, a sand rail and a dune buggy. Rudy always had a smile on his face and a joke for all.
Rudy is survived by his mother, Jean Agnes Rawson Rudy; his beloved wife, Martha Carter, King, NC; children Danielle Jo Rudy Parsons (Shannon, his favorite son-in-law), Mebane, NC; Eric Gene Rudy, (Cristy), Kernersville, NC; and Jenna Justen (Kelly, his favorite son-in-law), Bealeton, VA; siblings, Larry Rudy, JoLyn Gonzales, and Kevin Rudy of Amherst, OH; and nine grandchildren as well as his mistress, ‘Smokey’ the 2014 Stingray Corvette. He is preceded in death by his father Paul ‘Budd’ Rudy, sister Holly Saunders, and brother Jay Rudy.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs Church of Christ, 7120 North Carolina Hwy 66 S. King, NC 27021 with Rev. Chuck Bower officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1:00 pm, prior to the service. The family would like to thank the caregivers and doctors at WFU Baptist Medical Center and at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem, NC for their care, kindness and dedication.
