Roger Allen Edwards

Heaven gained a precious soul as Roger Allen Edwards (Poppy) took his heavenly flight home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017.  On August 30th, 1933 Roger was born to John and Bessie Edwards in Wilkes County, NC, the world has been blessed with his presence for the past 84 years.

He has been a faithful member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church, where he served the Lord with gladness. He retired from ABTCO, and was presently employed by Cardwell’s Automotive.

In 1952, Roger married the love of his life, Claire Cheek Edwards.  He was a loving father to two sons and daughters-in-law; Allen and Martha Edwards and Mike and Carol Edwards.  His pride and joy included four grandchildren and 10 precious great-grandchildren, Holly (Owen, Caid and Kove) Burcham, April (Brian, Charity and Faith) Cardwell, Amy (Josh, Tate and Jace) Samples, Rocky (Amanda, Teigan, Rhett and Baby Girl) Edwards.  Poppy also has two surviving sisters, Mildred Anthony and Wilma Gustafson, and one sister-in-law, Genny Edwards.  He has many special nieces, nephews and wonderful close friends.  He was proceeded in his home-going by his parents and six brothers; Basil, Claude, John Rudolph, Ronald, Russell and Robert (Bob) Edwards.

A celebration of his life and Godly legacy will be held at Pleasant Home Baptist Church of Roaring River on, Friday, October 6th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Danny Bauguess and Rev. Brian Cardwell officiating.  Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery Fund 162 Byrd Road, Roaring River, NC 28669.
