Mr. Larry Steven Kennedy, age 34, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Duke University Medical Center following a long illness. Steven was born April 12, 1983 in Forsyth County to Larry and Rose Cockerham Kennedy. He was a 2007 graduate of Appalachian State University and was employed with Lowes Corporate in N. Wilkesboro. Steven was dedicated to Appalachian State Football, always a season ticket holder and a member of the Yosef Club. He will be remembered for his humble and tenderheartedness as well as his strength and determination during his illness.
Steven was preceded in death by his mother.
Survivors include: his father, Larry Kennedy of Roaring River; sisters, Tina Kennedy Sightler and her husband Harold of Boiling Springs, SC and ChristyKennedy Pienkowski and her husband Sam of Houston, TX and niece and nephews, James Sightler, Haley Pienkowski and Logan Pienkowski.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.at Little Stone Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Coe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to the National Foundation for Transplants, 5350 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119.
The family would like to thank the staff of Duke University Medical Center including the Critical Care Team, Duke Life Flight, the heart and lung transplant team and Dr. O’Neal and the staff of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for their care.
