Mr. James Lloyd Carter, age 78, passed away Monday, September 25, 2017. Mr. Carter was born November 4, 1938 in Wilkes County to Watson and Stella Carter.
Lloyd was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church where he enjoyed working with the youth and providing transportation for those who were less fortunate. He coached Little League Baseball for 10 years while his sons were growing up. He coached with passion and intensity and enjoyed watching his teams compete. He won numerous championships and coach of the year honors. He loved athletics and understood the importance of the life lessons that were gained by being a part of a team. He loved his farm and his cattle, the Duke Blue Devils, Dallas Cowboys and most of all the New York Yankees.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his two brothers, Bob Carter and Billy Frank Carter; and his niece, Eloise Carter.
Survivors include: his wife of 49 years, Billie Jo Carter; sons, Darren Carter and wife Debbie of Elkin, Scott Carter and wife Terrian of State Road; brothers, Wille Carter and wife Tony, Blake Carter and wife Gail; sister, Geraldine Carter; sister-in-law’s, Emma Jean Carter and Peggy Carter; grandchildren, Kim Meadows and husband Brent, Brandon Carter and wife Paige and Jackson Carter; step-grandchildren, Josh Greene and Jenna Greene; great-grandchildren, Trysten Meadows, Addison Meadows, and Kaylee Carter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Cool Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Russ Nixon, Rev. Rick Cockerham and Rev. Joe Souther officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
