Rev. Dennis Ray Sexton, age 63, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017. Rev. Sexton was born October 19, 1953 in Wilkes County to Mckinley Leff and Mamie Lyon Sexton.
Rev. Sexton was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church. He was an ordained minister and had been the pastor of Rolling Hills Baptist Church in Bland, VA. Rev. Sexton was known for his radio ministry “Back to Calvary” on WYZD and WCOK.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brothers, David Sexton, Kenneth Sexton and Toliver Sexton.
Survivors include: his wife of 21 years, Joan L. Sexton of the home; one brother, Billy Sexton and wife Patty of Hays; two sisters, Doris Sparks of Jonesville and Carolene Wagoner and husband Frank of Elkin; and one brother-in-law, Wayne Lyles and wife Jenny of State Road; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Rev. Sexton will be conducted Friday, August 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Charity Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Cardwell, Rev. Marvin Blackburn and Rev. Don Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Charity Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 423 Union Hill Road, Thurmond, NC 28683.
The family would like to thank the Mountain Park First Responders and Surry EMS for their care.
Rev. Sexton's favorite scripture was Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
