Fairy Eva Hayes

Mrs. Fairy Eva Dockery Hayes, age 87, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 at Pruitt Health Care.  Mrs. Hayes was born May 22, 1930 in Surry County to Alvin and Minnie Shinault Dockery.

Fairy was known to be a hard worker which she did 7 days a week, every week her entire life.  This was something she was proud of.  Fairy loved flowers, farming, agriculture, friends, and family.  She especially loved working and caring for the dogs at Quail Hill Farm Kennels.  Fairy was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Hayes; three brothers, Gilmer Dockery, Phillip Dockery, and Tommy Dockery; and two sisters, Hallie Dockery O’Shea and Victoria Hayes.

Survivors include: her son, Tracy Hayes, of State Road; sister, Libby Helton of Mt. Airy; two sisters-in-law, Betty Dockery of Dobson, and Jo Dockery of Dobson; special friends, Chuck and Susan Neaves and Gurney and Kay Reavis; and numerous cousins and extended family.

A funeral service for Mrs. Hayes will be conducted Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Bill Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
