Rev. Bill Brown

Rev. William “Bill” Brown, age 96, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017.  Rev. Brown was born April 29, 1921 in West Helena, AK to Edward and Josephine Carter Brown.

Rev. Brown graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in aeronautical engineering and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA.  He served Greenwood and Speedwell Presbyterian Churches in Reidsville, NC, Trinity Presbyterian Church in Fairhope, AL, Faith Presbyterian Church and Elkin Presbyterian Church from 1965-1988 where he retired after 23 years.  Rev. Brown was the first chaplain of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital and Hugh Chatham Nursing Center from 1988-2000 and retired after 12 years on his 80th birthday.

Rev. Brown was preceded in death by parents.

Survivors include: his wife, Jewell Bailey Brown of the home; and two sons, George W. Brown of Jonesville and Mark E. Brown of Raleigh.

A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Elkin First United Methodist Church with Dr. Bill Johnson and Rev. Mike Shuford officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service.
