Mrs. Betty Jo McBride Cothren, age 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 2, 2017. Mrs. Cothren was born June 17, 1935 in Wilkes County to Walter and Ruby Brown McBride. She retired from Chatham Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Stoney Ridge Baptist Church where she served as pianist for over 50 years. Mrs. Cothren was an avid quilter, donating her quilts to many charities and fundraisers.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Cothren; grandchild, Andy Cothren and brother, Tyre McBride.
Survivors include: her children, Ronnie Cothren and his wife Barbara of Roaring River, Ann Marley and her husband Don of Elkin, Bobby Cothren and his wife Patricia of Mooresville, Donna Brewer and her husband Arnold of Hays, Tyre Cothren and his wife Tina of Elkin and Janice Burchette and her husband David of Ronda; sisters, Janice Billings of Winston Salem and Elizabeth Staley and husband Paul of Winston Salem; brother, David McBride of Walkertown; grandchildren, Terri Collins, Wesley Swaim, Brandi Steele, Steven Marley, Lisa Davis, Allie Cothren, Sarah Cothren, Meghan Barker, Lauren Brewer, Luke Brewer, Brian Cothren, Lauren Moore, Abby King; and great grandchildren, Bekka Collins, Leah & Jade Cothren, Brittany & Brady Marley, Autumn & Natalie Moore, James Steele, and Alex Thomas, who all knew and loved her as “Mee Maw.”
A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Stoney Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Rickey Johnson and Rev. Brian Cothren officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following in the church sanctuary.
The family requests that memorials be made to Stoney Ridge Baptist Church or Mountain Valley Hospice 401 Technology Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030. “A mother holds her child’s hand for a while, their heart forever.”
