Betty Kay Reves

Mrs. Betty “Kaye” Reves, age 78, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 at her residence.  Mrs. Reves was born January 23, 1939 in Surry County to Jay and Edith Blackburn Mayes.

Kaye was high school valedictorian and played women’s basketball.  At Appalachian State, she was Phi Beta Kappa and on the debate team.  She earned a master’s degree in biology from William and Mary.  Kaye conducted research on genetics and cancer at leading universities in Colorado, working with pioneers in the field.  Kaye was an artist as well as a scientist.  She loved music, nature, gardening, crafting, cooking, travel, and collecting minerals and shells.  Most of all, she loved sharing her interests with others, especially the young.

Mrs. Reves was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include: her daughter, Rochelle Bazemore and fiancé Jason of Raleigh; and her brother, Billy Jay Mayes and wife Agnes of Mountain Park.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 7, 2017 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
