Paul Spencer Corder

Paul Spencer Corder, 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in Wilmington, NC.  He was born January 01, 1919 to Gilmer and Jocie Phillips Corder in Surry County, NC. Paul loved gardening, telling stories, coconut cake, apples from the trees on his land, fishing, hunting and anything in nature.  He enjoyed afternoon rain showers, the companionship of a dog and waiving at neighbors as they would pass by.  Paul never met a stranger and in his final years enjoyed greeting visitors at his assisted living facility in Wilmington, NC.   He was a wonderful, caring grandfather and great grandfather who will be truly missed. In addition to his parents Paul was preceded in death by his son Tom Corder.

Except for a short period of service in World War II, Paul worked at Chatham Manufacturing Co. in Elkin and could be found working hard in his garden every day.

Paul was a member of the Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness church and active in the church for many years.

Paul is predeceased by his wife Eloise C. Corder, son, Tom Corder, brother Kermit Corder, and sister Grace Lyons.  He is survived by his brother, Johnny Corder and wife Willie May; sister Betty Wood; daughter-in-law, Lois Corder; grandson Wesley Corder and wife Jennifer; great grandchildren Airlie and Curren; and many other family members and friends.

Paul was a dedicated Christian, hard working, honest man who loved his family.  He was patient and took the time to look around and enjoy all of Gods precious gifts throughout his life.  He was best known for his green thumb, loving spirit, positive attitude and willingness to help others.  He was a great Pa to his great grandchildren and he loved them very much.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 16 from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm with a funeral service at 3:00pm with Dr. James E. Everette and Rev. Albert Everidge officiating.  Visitation and service will be held at Elkin Funeral Services at 560 NC Highway 268 West, Elkin, NC 28621 .  Memorial donations may be made to the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina (Greensboro, NC) and the Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church.
