Mr. William Leonard “Bill” Boles, age 88, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Chatham Nursing & Rehab. Mr. Boles was born June 29, 1928 in Yadkin County to Oscar Edwin Boles, Sr and Beulah Mayberry Boles.
Bill was a graduate of Wake Forest University, class of 1950, and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Bill ended his professional career by retiring from Chatham Manufacturing Company as Superintendent of Preparation and Fabrication and was a lifetime member of Jonesville First United Methodist Church, where he served in numerous leadership roles. Bill was very involved in the Town of Jonesville, serving as a Jonesville Town Commissioner from 1975-1987, and he received the Jonesville Outstanding Citizen Award in 1980. One of Bill’s major accomplishments was writing a grant and securing the funds to construct Jonesville Family Medical Center. He was then instrumental in recruiting Dr. Bill Blackley and Dr. Evan Ballard from Duke Medical School to begin and staff the practice in 1979. In addition to his service to the Town of Jonesville, Bill served on the Board of Directors of Yadkin Valley Bank from 1971-2007, the Board of Trustees of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital from 1970-2007, which he chaired from January 1999-December 2000 and served on the Board of Directors of the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Foundation from 2008-2013. Bill loved to play golf and enjoyed his many friends at Cedarbrook Country Club. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Oscar Edwin Boles, Jr.
Survivors include, his wife of 61 years, Sarah Faye Lassiter Boles of the home, a son, Steven William Boles and wife Debbi of Madison, a daughter, Beth Amanda Boles Mickey and husband Greg of Spartanburg, SC, three grandchildren, Meredith Mickey, Hannah Mickey, and Wesley Boles.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Jonesville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Judy Davis officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Jonesville First United Methodist Church, 305 West Main Street, Jonesville, NC 28642.
The family would like to thank the staff of Chatham Nursing Center and Rehab, Physicians and staff of Jonesville Family Medical Center, and the many friends and members of Jonesville First United Methodist Church for the love and care shown to Bill during his illness.
