Rev. Amos Lyon

Rev. Willard Amos Lyon, age 90, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the home of his daughter and son-in law and in the care of Richmond County Hospice in Rockingham, NC.  Rev. Lyon was born August 3, 1926 in Wilkes County to C.S. and Luray Hawkins Lyon.

Rev. Lyon was a member of Knobbs Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII having served in the 7th Division – Okinawa and Korea.  Amos married Lois Byrd on November 22, 1946.  Rev. Lyon graduated from Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute in 1959 and served on the Blue Ridge Opportunity Commission (BROC) for 20 years. During his fifty plus years of service to his Lord and Savior, Rev. Lyon pastored Knobbs Baptist Church for two terms, Crossroads Baptist Church, Benham Baptist Church, Turkey Ford Baptist Church, Union Baptist Church, The Church in the Wildwood/Green Mountain Community and was the superintendent of Stone Mountain Baptist Association.  His love for Jesus Christ and his fellowman led to many wonderful years in God’s service.

In addition to his parents Amos was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Byrd Lyon, his siblings: Dorothy Harris, Kermit Lyon, Harold Lyon and Rosalee Collins.

Survivors include, a daughter, Nancy Lyon Boling and husband Wayne of Rockingham, a son, Kenneth Amos Lyon, grandsons Michael Lyon and Timothy Linker, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11 am at Knobbs Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Caudill and Rev. Mathew Simpson officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Rev. Lyon will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service.  The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 pm at Elkin Funeral Service.
