Frances Abercrombie Simpson

Mrs. Frances Abercrombie Simpson, age 89, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Chatham Nursing and Rehab Center in Elkin.

She was born July 14, 1928 in Laurens County, South Carolina to Willie Gray and Liddie Mae Graydon Abercrombie.  Mrs. Simpson was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She retired from Elkin High School and was a member of Elkin Presbyterian Church, the Women’s Morning Bible Study Group and a past member of the Elkin Garden Club and the Elkin Women’s Club.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Bratton Simpson, Jr.

Survivors include: her son, Joseph B. Simpson III of Elkin; daughter, Linda Simpson Grimes and her husband William Randolph Grimes of Welcome; brothers, W. G. Abercrombie and wife Mary Ellen of Broad Run, VA. and B. R. Abercrombie and wife Harriet of Gray Court, SC.; sister-in-law, Lillian Simpson of Greenville, SC; grandchildren,, Annie Grimes Williams and her husband Mark, Catherine Grimes Kostka and her husband Keith, Sara Simpson and her husband Kenny, Kristyn Vaughan and her husband Cody and Holly Simpson; and great grandchildren, Alder Williams, Maggie Kostka, Aaron Simpson, Lakelyn Simpson, Kynleigh Simpson, Kailey Vaughan and Declan Vaughan.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Presbyterian Church with Rev. Stuart Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
