Mary Lou Longworth

Mrs. Mary Lou Longworth, age 71, passed away unexpectedly Monday, May 1, 2017 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital.  Mary Lou was born on November 4, 1945 in Surry County to Ralph and Grace Lawrence McCoin. She graduated from Elkin High School, class of 1964, and attended Central Piedmont Community College before working as an executive assistant at a variety of companies, including Pilot Life Insurance, and as a caregiver for the Elkin City School’s after school program.  An avid sports fan, Mary Lou played softball for the Baptist Hospital, Department of Clinics softball team, and never missed a UNC Tarheel basketball game. She most recently attended Maple Springs United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her loving sister, Judy Blackburn, her nephew Monty (Montgomery) McCoin and her husband, Malcom Herbert Longworth.  She is survived by her son, Christopher Jeffery Longworth, her daughter-in-law, Christina Clum, and her cherished granddaughter, Cora Longworth Clum of Brooklyn, NY; her beloved siblings; brother, Samuel McCoin of Richmond, VA; sister, Ann Goodson of Cary, NC; nieces Lori McCoin Jones of Richmond, VA; Stacey Blackburn Pierce of Eden, NC; nephews Mitch Blackburn of Bluffton, SC; nephews Drew Goodson of Cary, NC; Kyle Goodson of Norfolk, VA; Seth Goodson of Wilmington, NC; and niece Hannah Goodson of Raleigh, NC; along with many other dear friends and relatives.  A courageous and loving individual, Mary Lou will be greatly missed, but lives on in all whose lives she touched. Her family would like to sincerely thank all of those who supported Mary Lou throughout her life. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel, with Rev.
