Mike Phillips

March 26, 1942 — January 27, 2017

John Michael "Mike" Phillips, age 74, departed this life unexpectedly on Friday, January 27, 2017. He was born March 26, 1942 in Elkin. A graduate of Elkin High School, he studied at Ohio State University. Mike was the co-owner and CEO of Grandeur Manufacturing in Jonesville. Since its inception, Mike and the employees of Grandeur have been dedicated to working with customers to solve their design, production and quality issues on major projects. ? ?

A life long learner, creator, and entrepreneur; Mike had many successful careers.  He was a gunsmith, engineer, professional magician, architect, contractor, and builder of custom motorcycles. Blessed with a brilliant mind and a restless heart, he was always absorbed in some new skill or project. Mike was a gifted artist, airplane pilot, fly fisher, hunter, and marksman. He loved books and music and one of his favorite activities was playing and building guitars. He also loved animals, especially cats, and the recent addition to the household of three kittens: Rambo, Charlie, and Lucy, brought him much joy.  Mike was a man of principle and faith who believed that all things were possible through hard work and determination. He set an example of that belief in all that he did.

He is survived by his wife, best friend, fellow adventurer, and business partner of 42 years, Tricia Hewett Phillips. Mike is also survived by his son, Britt Phillips; grandson, Zach Phillips; sister, Jane Phillips; nephew, Barrett Brooks; brothers-in-law, Andrew Stevenson and Mike Hewett; and a host of wonderful friends and colleagues. Mike has left a beautiful mark on the world and in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
