Roland Leverne "Vern" Smith

Mr. Roland Leverne “Vern” Smith, age 84, passed away Monday, January 2, 2017.  Mr. Smith was born August 12, 1932 in Wilkes County to John Arlie and Eula Thompson Smith.

In addition to his parent, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Gillenwater Smith and brothers, Gene Autry Smith and John Arlie Smith, Jr.

Survivors include: his sons, David Lee Smith and wife Patricia of Elkin, and Jimmy Lee Smith and wife Brandy of Hamptonville; daughter, Virginia Anne Smith Casstevens and husband Greg of Elkin; brother Sherwood Smith and wife Nancy of State Road; sisters, Judith Baber and husband Joe of Chloride, AZ, and Joyce Carter of Elkin; grandchildren, Stephen Gray Smith, Aaron Brady Smith, John Cody Smith, Larry Allen Smith and Megan Nichole Casstevens.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with
Rev. Claude Lloyd officiating.  Burial will follow at White Rock Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
