Ernest Martin

Mr. Ernest Manley Martin, age 89, passed away Tuesday, December 06, 2016 at Elkin Assisted Living after a long battle with dementia. Mr. Martin was born June 25, 1927 in Wilkes County to James Manly and Lillie Mae Dudley Martin.

Mr. Martin was a member of Bessie’s Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and retired from Chatham Manufacturing after 45 years of service.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Viola Wall Martin who passed away in 1978; second wife, Sadie Park Martin who passed away in 2015; brothers, Clyde Martin, Walter Martin, Paul Martin, Arvel Martin, Frank Martin and Clarence Martin.

Survivors include: his daughters, Dana Sloop and husband Jim of State Road and Becky Farrington and husband Junior of State Road; brothers, Hermon Martin of Missouri and Raymond Martin and wife Georgie of State Road; grandchildren, Josh Sloop and wife Karen of Pennsylvania, Allison Griffin and husband Josh of Elkin, Kyle Parsons and wife Kristy of State Road, Tim Farrington of Darrington, WA and Amy Bryant and husband Daryl of Pilot Mountain; great-grandchildren, Caleb Sloop, Will Sloop, Ella Sloop, Saul Griffin, Amelia Griffin, Macy Parsons, Presley Parsons, Brandon Farrington and Megan Bryant.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 11, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Bessie’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Ralph Grose officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
