Carl Darnell

Mr. Joseph Carl Darnell, age 75, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born May 16, 1941 in Surry County to Kermit and Ruby Casey Darnell.  He was retired from LP and was a member of Open Arms Outreach.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by daughter, Carla Sue Brown; son, Joey Carl Darnell; and sister, Linda Darnell Parker.

Survivors include: his wife, Cynthia C. Darnell of the home; daughters, Robin Carter and her husband Scott of Lenoir, Tabitha Poplin and her husband Jamie of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Cindy Anderson and her husband Scott of Traphill; sons, Dennis Smoot and his wife Terrie of Elkin and Teddy Smoot and his wife Rosemary of Boonville; brother Rex Darnell and his wife Susan; sister, Sheldon Hemric and her husband Eugene; grandchildren, Richie Brown, Nicolas Johnson, Chris Darnell, Caleb Smoot, Haley Smoot, Skyler Darnell, Micah Poplin, Allyson Poplin, Joseph Anderson, Ashleigh Anderson and McKinley Anderson; and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Mr. Eddie Day and Rev. Rodney Luffman officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. prior to the service.
