Mr. Paul Lenzy Merritt, age 86, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Elkin Assisted Living. Mr. Merritt was born August 8, 1930 in Stokes County to Rufus and Josie Tuttle Merritt. He was retired from Anchor Motor Freight and attended Elkin Valley Baptist Church. Mr. Merritt was a veteran of the US Army serving in Korea. He was a great woodworker and fix-it man and loved the outdoors, gardening and traveling. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by son, Paul Eugene “Bud” Merritt; two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include: his wife: Jane Hinson Merritt of the home; daughter, Seretha “Sis” Merritt (Butch Latham); three grandchildren: Kendra Browder (Casey), Missie Latham and Kasey Wolfe; two great grandchildren: Christian Browder and Peyton Latham-Rodrigues; step daughter, Tommi Jane Mendenhall (Tony Hall, deceased); two step grandchildren: Tiffany McIver (Adam) and Tyler Hall; two step great grandchildren: Emerson and Everett McIver; extended family, John and Debbie Stokes and Jade and Brett Stokes.
Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Johnny Blevins, Dr. Roger Hensley and Rev. Rob Lapp officiating. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
