Russell "June" Scales

Mr. Russell “June” Scales a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle took his Heavenly flight Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Chatham Nursing & Rehab Center. Mr. Scales was born December 5th in Surry County to Russell and Mable Phillips Scales.
Russell was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. He retired from Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital as well as Yadkin Valley Bank. Russell was active in the community and was an avid gardener.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Emory Scales and Robert Scales; sisters, Lucille Sherrill and Elsie Hoosier; son, Larry Scales; daughter-in-law, Barbara Scales and grandsons, Kelly Scales and Lynn Scales.
Survivors include: his wife of 43 years, Sally H. Scales of the home; four children, Ronnie Scales(Betty) of Mt. Airy, Gary Scales of Oxford, NC, Teresa Scales of Jonesville and Terry Scales of Jonesville; brother, Floyd Scales of Winston Salem; sister, Rev. Beatrice Morrison (Melvin) of Winston Salem; two special granddaughters, Cassandra Scales and Sharay “LeeLee” Scales; grandchildren, Gary Scales, Jr., Stephanie Scales and Hope Curry; six great-grandchildren; Goddaughter, Aliah Jones; special friends, Ronnie Gilbert, Darrell Holloway, Bill Reynolds and Clyde Hayes; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Casey Walker, Eulogist Rev. Ernest Martin, Rev. Jeanette Hayes, Rev. Chad Mann and Rev. Calvin Bryant officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and the National Honor Guard will follow at Mountain Valley Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Ronda. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
