Pauline "Polly" Winebarger Finley

December 1, 1939 — June 21, 2016

Mrs. Pauline “Polly” Winebarger Finley, age 76, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Finley was born December 1, 1939 in Wilkes County to Charlie Thomas and Edith Rae Beshears Winebarger.
There is no perfect place to begin as we reflect upon the life of our special Polly. As so many have simply said, she is truly one of a kind.
Polly’s life is best captured in a poem written to her by her sister, Barb. ‘Without Polly Wolly what will we do? Oh I Knew we would all be blue, for she was a sister who had been blessed with memory and talents; better than all the rest. To hear her play the piano was a special treat, one that can’t be beat. She loved to quote scripture and poems she learned when she was small, not one of us could do, not one at all. Our sister was one with a heart of gold, all her gifts to others could never be told. She loved to tell riddles and jokes to all who would hear, she would clean people’s yards to all who lived near. No other could have a sister so dear.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Finley; infant daughter, Sheila Finley; brothers, John, Wayne, Cecil Winebarger and Harold Minton Church.
Survivors include: her sisters, Barbara W. Adams and husband Baxter of Hamptonville, Aline Wilhelm and husband Jim of State Road and Virginia McKinnon and husband Jeff of Lexington; brothers, William Winebarger and wife Linda of State Road and Garry Winebarger and wife Lynn of Fayetteville, NC; very special nephew, “my little husband” Derek Ryan Vestal; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Charlie Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Island Ford Baptist Church, 2124 NC Hwy 67, Jonesville, NC 28642.
The family would like to thank the ICU staff of the 2nd floor of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital and special thanks to Steven Adair for their care.
