Mr. George Lee McCoin, 81, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday,
May 10, 2016
at his home in Elkin. He was born in Elkin in 1934 to Maierene McCoin Bates. Mr. McCoin was a life-long member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was a wonderful husband, father, and Grandpa to his family. Mr. McCoin was an avid gardener and loved to travel and spent a lot of time in Pennsylvania and Ohio visiting the Amish with whom he became life-long friends. He also enjoyed meeting with friends every morning at Speedy Chef.
Mr. McCoin retired from Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital after 28 years and worked for Carl Rose and Son's. He was a farmer his whole life and graduated from Elkin High School in 1952.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maierene McCoin Bates; step father, Cotis Bates and step-sisters, Faye Hiatt and Carolyn Bates.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years Shirley Caudle McCoin of the home; daughter, Brenda(Jeff) Combs of Cana, VA; son, Tim(Tammy)McCoin of Elkin;
grandchildren, Mitch(Shannon)McCoin of Charleston, SC, Matt Childress of Elkin, Haley(William) Sullivan of Elkin and Hannah(Harley)Winebarger of Elkin;
great-grandchildren; Declan and Teagan McCoin of Charleston, SC, Lily and Liam Sullivan of Elkin, Hunter and Hayden Winebarger of Elkin; step-grandchildren, Tracy(Mitch) Midkiff of Mt. Airy, NC, and Shawn(Emily) Combs of Cana, VA

The family will receive friends Thursday,

from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held

at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with Pastors Jerry Fugate, Jonah Parker and Wesley Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
