Leo Darnell

Mr. Leo Joshua Darnell, age 92, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Darnell was born January 16, 1924 in Wilkes County to Clarence P. and Doris Ann Couch Darnell.
Mr. Darnell was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII and the Korean War. He was an avid woodworker and a retired machinist from Chatham Manufacturing after 40 years of service. Mr. Darnell was a member of First Baptist Church of Elkin.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Estelle Hicks and brothers, Herman Darnell and Gray Darnell.
Survivors include: his wife of 65 years, Velma L. Darnell of the home; sons, Gary C. Darnell and wife Kathy of Fairview, TN and Stan B. Darnell and wife Sherry of Elkin; sister, Frances Wall of Elkin; grandchildren, Kristin Ertel and husband Chris, Amy McKinney and husband Brian, Zachary Darnell, Andrew Darnell and Seth Darnell and wife Nicki; great-grandchildren, Brian, Grace, Rylan, Kileigh, Koraline, Elijah, Marley and Sienna.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery will full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW post 10346 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Elkin with Dr. Rick Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
