Dorothy "Dot" Gambill

Homosassa, Florida

Mrs. Dorothy Burcham Gambill, age 92, entered Heaven’s gates on February 5, 2016. She was born October 25, 1923 in Elkin, NC, to Lavona and Harrison “H.C.” Burcham. In 1946 she married Samuel E. Gambill after he returned from WWII. In 1947 she gave birth to the first of 2 sons (Michael) and in 1948 the second son (Randall).

In the early 1950’s Mrs. Gambill moved to Orlando, FL, where she was a mother, homemaker, and wife and later managed a clothing store. She and Sam moved back to Elkin in 1975 where they lived until Sam passed away in 1992 and then she moved to Oakwood, GA, in 2006 to be closer to her sons. In 2012 she moved with Michael to Homosassa, FL where she lived until her death.

Mrs. Gambill loved sewing, crocheting and quilting. Her fondest memories were making quilts with the ladies at First Baptist Church of Elkin. She always talked about those social times and the good times that were had.

In her life-time she had 6 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, all of whom she loved and adored. Mrs. Gambill had 2 brothers Marvin, and Bud and 4 sisters Louise, Jesse, “Bill” (Wilma) and Gypsy. She also had many nieces and nephews on both the Burcham and the Gambill side of the families.

Mrs. Gambill was interned at Crestwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in a private service on February 10, 2016. A special memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Chapel in Elkin, NC.
