Mr. Clyde Richard Shook, age 89, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016. Mr. Shook was born February 4, 1926 in Catawba County to Lester and Inez Moose Shook.
Mr. Shook was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force serving during WWII from 1944 to 1945 and retired from the U.S. Army Reserves in 1986 with the rank of Colonel. Mr. Shook also retired from the NC Highway Patrol as First Sergeant. He was charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Atonement in Wilkesboro and was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Jonesville. Mr. Shook was a past company commander of the VFW Post 1142 and a past board member of the Surry County Mental Health Board.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Franklin Shook and Sam Shook; sisters; Reba S. Warren and Helen S. Alexander.
Survivors include: his wife of 68 years Sue A. Shook of the home; daughters, Sharon Kallam and husband Larry of Elkin and Susan S. Hyder and husband Charlie of Hickory; daughter/ niece, Pamela Gaither of Tobaccoville; daughter/ niece, Sarah Lynn Bowles and husband Rick of Huntington, WV; sister, Ruth S. Law and husband Keith of Maryville, TN; brother-in-law, Joe Alexander of Greensboro; sisters-in-law, Ann Shook of Statesville and Shelby Shook of Conyers, GA; grandchildren, Benjamin Kallam, Brandon Kallam and wife Mariela, Jennifer Hyder Griffin and husband Charlie; Jeremy Hyder and wife Rachel; Patrick Gaither and wife Sarah; Adam Hooker, Amanda Hooker, Nikki Wall and Scott Wall; great-grandchildren, Jenna Griffin and Jackson Griffin; special nephew, Eddie Spear.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Dale Cline and Rev. Cobby Day officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens by Wilkes County VFW Post 1142. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
