Lantz Patrick Gaffney, Sr.

Mr. Lantz Patrick Gaffney, Sr., age 92, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015. Mr. Gaffney was born March 8, 1923 in Bessemer City, NC to Carl and Carrie Stockton Gaffney.
Mr. Gaffney was a Veteran of WWII from during January 1942 to January 1946 with the First Marine Division serving in three South Pacific campaigns Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester New Britain and Peleliu. He was wounded at Cape Gloucester and received the Purple Heart. He retired from Thomas Built Buses in 1985 and was an avid golfer and loved Irish and blue grass music. He was a faithful member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Steed Gaffney; brothers, Frankie Gaffney, Syd Gaffney, Max Gaffney, Lawrence Gaffney, Glenn Gaffney and Coley Gaffney and sister, Arzylee Brown.
Survivors include: his wife, June Hepler Gaffney of the home; son, Lantz Patrick Gaffney, Jr. and wife Phyllis of Greensboro; step-daughter, Christy Hurley and husband Thomas of Salisbury, MD; sisters, Doris Johnson of Deland, FL and Valeria Wood and husband Herman of Archdale; sisters-in-law, Alma Gaffney of Elkin and Nancy Gaffney of Augusta, GA; granddaughter, Felicia Gaffney of Greensboro; step-grandchildren, Erin Reddish Jackson and husband Donnie and Scott Reddish of MD and step-granddaughter, Mia Jackson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 26, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Chad Whitley and Rev. Roger Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by the US Marine Corps Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
