Raymond Arlington Norman

Mr. Raymond Arlington Norman, age 86, of State Road, NC went to his heavenly home with Jesus on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. He was born March 1, 1929 in Wilkes County to Lena Woodle Norman and Frederich Wilson Norman.
Mr. Norman worked as a well driller when he was a young man and then spent the rest of his working years as a farmer. He spent his later years volunteering with the North Carolina Services for the Blind teaching independent living skills to other blind and visually impaired people at Surry Community College. He enjoyed talking to his many friends on the CB radio, working in the garden so he could share produce with family and friends, buying and selling horses, and telling stories about his youth. He was a member of Shoaly Branch Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Clyde, Orville, and Howard Norman. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of almost 65 years, Alma Blackburn Norman of the home; two sons, Burt Norman and wife Carolyn and Ricky Norman and wife Martha all of State Road; three granddaughters, Christy Howlett and husband Sheldon, Olivia Norman and Amanda Norman all of State Road; one great-granddaughter, Elleigh Howlett; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Keith Blankley, Rev. Stanley Stogner and Rev. Kenneth Wood officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Shoaly Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the ICU, second floor nurses and respiratory therapist at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion they extended to the Norman family during a difficult time.
