Mr. Steven Harold Barker, 66, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Barker was born November 8, 1949 in Surry County to Harold Timothy and Kathleen White Barker. Mr. Barker was a veteran of the U.S. Marines Corp serving during the Vietnam War. He worked as a Security Guard at Baptist Hospital before retiring. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Terry Barker and Drake Barker. Survivors include: His beloved friend and partner, Ms. Lisa Shore of Jonesville; one daughter, Laurie Merriss and husband Todd of Easley, SC; four grandchildren, Caleb Holden, Joshua Holden, Caden Merriss, Jackson Merriss; four aunts, Eunice Winters of Jonesville, Louise Tilley and husband Harold of Elkin, Betty Cockerham of Jonesville, Grace Johnson of Jonesville; two nieces, Leigh Wells and husband Stacey, and Tiffany Russell and husband Bronson; and best friend and companion his dog, Griff. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 4, 2015 at 11:00 am at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Wanda Skilbred, Mary Lou Gatan and Rick Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the U.S Marines Corp and the Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
